In 1967 John C. Nielson created Nielson Construction with the same gritty resolve and hard work ethic he had developed while working on the family farm. A small company with few employees, John fostered the fledgling company through those early difficult years with a simple philosophy of getting the job done by dedicating yourself to taking care of the customer and providing them quality work, no matter how big or small the job might be.
In 1981 two of John’s children, Wayne and Ralph Nielson, joined him in his development of Nielson Construction and the company incorporated. In the 1980s the company slowly grew and its reputation as an organization that provided quality work to its customers grew with it. Company employees were recognized for their hard work, diversity, skill and dedication in getting the job done. The 1990s brought unprecedented growth to Nielson Construction as it more than tripled in size and capabilities.
In 1998 John Nielson lost his
battle with cancer and passed away. Wayne and Ralph
Nielson committed themselves to continuing the company
he had struggled to create and took over operations
of Nielson Construction. In 1999 Nielson
Construction took a bold step by acquiring an asphalt
plant and committing the company to the goal of making
Superpave for federal highways. There were a great many
nay sayers who claimed that a company new to the asphalt
business could not meet federal specifications for
Superpave so early. Nielson Construction did so in its
first year. Since then Nielson Construction has grown
into the largest locally owned employer in the Emery and
Carbon County area of Southeastern Utah. In 2006, Wayne
and his sons John and Jesse, became the owners of
Nielson Construction, with Wayne remaining as president
of the company. Under their leadership and with a
core of dedicated, hard working and skilled employees,
the company’s diversity is its strength. From road
construction and gas well site development, to mine site
development/reclamation and asphalt paving, Nielson
Construction has the experience, equipment and manpower
to get the job done.
